Proposal

Title of the film:  Prison Bound

Who am I working with?
1.                   Fraser Abbott

2.                   Christos Dickman

The genre?
Prison bound is a typical crime thriller film with an exciting plot that involves crime. It has periods of built up dark tension and sudden rush of emotions throughout. It keeps there audience on the edge of their seats wondering what motive the killer has next.

What is your brief?
To create a teaser trailer for a thriller film, the trailer will last upwards from 1 minute to a maximum length of 2 minutes. We also have to produce a film magazine cover which will feature our film and include a main focal picture then text on the front cover and a poster will be produced as well including all the codes and conventions that would usually be required to create three elements. All three of the members in the group will participate together in creating the trailer, poster and magazine front cover. We will make sure that we have done an equal amount of work as we are all focusing on getting a roughly same grade. To do all of this equal we have decided to be together when creating these or if there comes a time where we can’t meet up then we do it separately then put our individual work together to create one final piece for the project.

How are you splitting the roles?
All 3 members of the group will contribute equally to filming, editing, designing etc. This will enable us to all get similar grades and hopeful achieve an A. We will all sit down together and create them together to make the finished product. The film is to do with three men and it will show there day separately. So all three of us will participate to be those three actors in the film. We will make sure that we have done an equal amount of work as we are all focusing on getting a roughly same grade. To do all of this equal we have decided to be together when creating these or if there comes a time where we can’t meet up then we do it separately then put our individual work together to create one final piece for the project.

Who are the audience?
The target audience for our trailer will be mainly for young men aged 15-40. However the trailer is suitable for anyone aged 15 or above, unisex. The film will be a 15+. This film will be most suitable for the male gender but it still can be suitable for the female gender. When creating this film we will be focusing on this target audience but because it is a thriller, it is a more male specific related film. We have a big range for the specific audience we have targeted it to. With the research we have done as a group, we have realised that this type of film we are creating have a large target audience.

What have you found out about your audience?
To find out more about our target audience and what they want to see we will produce questionnaires and from the questionnaire we will see what is most wanted to be seen in the trailer. Questionnaires will help us to identify and pick up results of what the audience think themselves. Reading the answers that the audience wrote will help us to please the audience by answering the questions and it will give us a benefit of what the audience think. We can meet the expectations with this method. A lot of companies have made films which have not pleased the audience so for us to please our audience then this is the best method to use. We will get direct answers which will give us a greater chance of creating the film that everyone will be talking about.

Research about existing products
As the film we are creating is a crime thriller, we have analysed similar types of current movies. One of these will be The Fugitive which Harrison Ford stars in. his is convicted of murdering his wife. He gets sentenced to death but during his transport the bus crashed and he is able to escape to mount his own investigation while trying to avoiding Tommy Lee Jones. Our film has a similar outline to the fugitive and works of a successful thriller. We have also looked at the Bourne series, these appeal to us as they are action filled but with moments of tension and many thriller like scenes throughout. We also analysed and annotated magazine covers of films which will in a way be similar to ours, and at some point we will annotate some trailers to see which parts are most exciting and effective.

We have watched two Quentin Tarantino film trailers (Reservoir dogs and kill bill vol 1) the filming intricacies of all the films techniques are brilliant and we hope to convey then in our portfolio of work. The reason on why we have watched this wide range of trailers is so we have a clear idea of what our style of trailer will be like. The clearer our ideas are the better imagination and creativeness that we have to create this trailer.

How will you make the film inventive?
For us to make the trailer strong and inventive we will aim to not go for the traditional conventions of a thriller film but add a twist to the trailer to confuse but interest the audience. We are hoping to make the trailer as thrilling as possible. We would hope to have a Quentin Tarantino style to the trailer if possible. Having traditional conventions will mean that the audience will have some ideas of what they will expect. But when it comes to not following the traditional conventions we can create a film which will surprise the audience and give them something they have never seen before.

Synopsis
The film will begin and end on a” prison bound” train with 3 characters that have been “wrongly” sentenced to life imprisonment for killing 3 young men. The train is then hijacked by prisoners and the characters escape. The 3 set up Facebook pages and turn to social network sites trying, while on the run to prove there innocents, however the outlook becomes bleak and police start gathering more evidence together to suggest they had done it. Did they do it? Will they get caught? And did anyone actually die?

What resources will be required by this project?
The resources that will need include personnel, equipment such as props, costumes and cameras and also facilities. These are very important as this is what will help us to create this film trailer. The main characters will be three people. There are three in our group and we will all be the main characters in this film.
